Be Aware - fake text claiming to be from HMRC

Our team have been made aware that there is a new text messages being sent around that claims to be from HMRC.

The fraudulent texts being received include messages such as:

"HMRC ALERT! You have 3 options regarding your SA debt:

  • Speak to someone today to resolve this on 0300 200 3856
  • Pay now by searching for pay SA on UK Gov Website
  • Do nothing and we’ll have to treat this as a deliberate choice not to pay

Our enforcement team will then take the appreciate action.”

Be aware. If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be from HMRC and they are encouraging you to provide bank account or personal details for alleged tax debts or refunds you should at first attempt to verify the caller's ID.  

You can report suspicious text / emails / calls via the HMRC website and also report the incident to Action Fraud.
